Lack of support...the Over 60s play on!
Although the Oxfordshire County Closed Masters tournament for 2018 had to be cancelled due to lack of support, the Over 60s rallied round and invited all known players in the age group to participate at Hithercroft on 3rd November.
8 people entered, though 2 had to cancel through late injuries, the remaining 6 played a two stage tournament. Stage 1 was a Round Robin (everyone played 5 short matches) and then Stage 2 was a knock out draw based on the rankings produced by the Round Robin. After an exhausting 3.5 hours of virtually continuous play, David Wright ran out the deserving winner and Oxfordshire O60s champion, while Andrew Smith was the well-deserved runner up. A special mention goes to Jim Lynn, recently back
playing after an extended break, who took 3rd spot.
Trevor Cox kindly sponsored the event and will be providing a medal to all participants and a handsome trophy which David will hold for the next 12 months.
The evening was rounded off with a meal and general agreement that the event should take place again next year (at least for all those still holding a racket).
